Keratin FAQs

THIS FORMULA IS COMPLETELY FORMALDEHYDE FREE:

Natural keratin is a structural protein, the key component of human hair.

Keratin is a protein and the major component in skin, hair and nails; in fact, your hair is mainly comprised of keratin-associated proteins. Keratin acts both as an external protective protein in the cuticle (the outer layers of a hair strand) and as an internal structural protein in the cortex (the inner core of the hair that helps determine its strength).

Keratin is depleted when hair is damaged physically, chemically and/or from environmental factors, such as the sun. This keratin loss exposes the hair’s cortex, making it susceptible to additional damage, and causes porous spots to develop—much like potholes in a road. Replenishing lost keratin helps to correct porosity and smooth the hair’s surface. It restores strength and elasticity, giving the hair a more youthful, healthy appearance.

To explain in a simple way, a keratin hair treatment infuses the vital element keratin back in to each strand of the hair. This helps to fill in the gaps in the hair cuticles, and once Keratin is infused back in to the hair –hair becomes smoother, silkier, shinier, healthier, straighter and much easier to style.

Keratin treatments eliminates the frizz from hair.

Keratin treatments protects hair from damaging UV rays and humidity.

How long does a keratin treatment last?

About 41/2 months provided you are following the tips for how to style and care for your smoothed hair.

What should I do to maintain my treatment results?

Minimize your hairs exposure to sulfates, sodium/salt and chlorine. Follow your stylist’s instruction on styling, products and lifestyle tips.

Treatments are a tool to help manage your frizz, curl, texture and aid you in more manageable (less time) at home blowouts. Smoothing Treatments are not Straighteners.

What is the difference between permanent straightening and keratin?

Relaxers and permanent straightening work by breaking and rearranging the internal bonds of the hair. Once this process is done, hair is permanently straightened. It looks amazing at the start, but as the hair begins to grow in, the new growth is textured/coarse/curly,  and the hair looks awful, as the previously straightened hair is straight while the new growth is not.  Keratin treatment straightens hair naturally, and does not break hair bonds. So your hair looks balanced, even with regrowth, without excessive heat styling.

Can I do a keratin treatment on permanently straightened/chemically treated or relaxed hair?

Yes

Can I have a keratin treatment the same day my hair is colored?

Yes, the Keratin seals in the color and your color will last much longer with no fading. This formula does not lift or shift color.
